Dulux Have Announced Their Colour of the Year 2020

© Dulux

Last year it was Spiced Honey, a warm earthy brown caramel, but for 2020 Dulux have officially revealed that their new Colour of the Year is called Tranquil Dawn.

A hazy pale green said to bring both comfort and a sense of calm into your home, this light and lovely shade is firmly in line with the predicted paint trends for next year.

Although earthy colours were also predicted to persist, a new influx of green and blue is most definitely arriving, giving your interiors a soothing edge.

Neo-mint has already been cited as a potential replacement to millennial pink; this  latest shade appears to confirm a lean in the industry towards soft green hues.

The chosen shade was partly picked by former editor-in-chief of ELLE Decoration UK, Michelle Ogundehin, and Heleen van Ghent from paint company Akzo Nobel’s global aesthetic centre taking account of current technological developments.

Robotics, big data and artificial intelligence have all been cited as making the human experience “more chaotic” and resulting in a lack of human connection.

Alongside the Colour of the Year 2020, there’s also four supporting trend palettes featuring a mix of complementary greens and dark charcoal accents.

The palette is said to capture the essence of ‘being human’ and inspired by the changing sunrises that paint the sky in different seasons.

The hazy pale green tones are stated to pair perfectly with neutral pastels and rich jewels creating welcoming spaces that encourage human connection.

It’s said to work well with saturated tones such as black and deep petrol blue while also teaming perfectly with neutral oatmeal, dusky pinks and lilacs, creating the ultimate relaxation zone.
