We all want to retain a youthful look, active life and healthy wellbeing, and these countries are the best at making all of that happen – and more.
Today, more than ever, we are all very conscious about our own, and families, health and wellbeing. We all want to retain our important features, stay active, avoid serious health related illnesses and live longer. Therefore it’s important to know how to best maintain a healthy lifestyle, and where to do it.
The recently released 2019 Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index breaks down where the healthiest countries are, what makes them so healthy and, most importantly, what diet you need to start embracing to emulate their particular lifestyle.
Wanting to commit to living the healthiest lifestyle possible? Then you will need to spend more time around the Mediterranean sea.
According to Bloomberg’s research, which graded all nations on variables including life expectancy, tobacco use, obesity rates, access to clean water and sanitation, and diet, that is where six of the ten healthiest countries in the world are on the European continent.
Claiming top spot for the healthiest country in the world is Spain. What makes the home of Rioja and Paella so healthy? Spaniards grow up and maintain a Mediterranean diet, which emphasises local fruits, vegetables, natural oils, nuts and fish, with a lack of red and processed meats.
Just behind Spain is Italy, who enjoy one of the best environments to keep a healthy body and soul. That relaxed lifestyle, combined with a Mediterranean diet, has meant that Italy have almost 10 times more centenarians per population than the UK and the United States.
In third place is Iceland who, as you’d expect, also enjoy a very fish-heavy diet. Despite their volcanic environment, which can blanket the country in either very warm temperatures or extreme cold, Icelandic people enjoy very long and very healthy lives.
While all three countries are different in size, location and lifestyle, all three, along with the rest of the top performing nations, follow one similar factor – a fish heavy and Mediterranean diet.
That seems to be the secret to a long and healthy life.
