Fresh research from scientists at the University of Texas, Austin, published in Sleep Medicine Reviews has revealed the best time to hop in the bath or shower before going to bed that’ll make sure you drift off to the land of nod stress free.

The new study has found that showering or dipping into the bathtub between one to two hours before bed time, in water no warmer than 42 degrees, can dramatically improve the quality of your sleep.

Bathing in warm water has been proven to have a positive impact on your body temperature, which can help to relax, de-stress and help you center your mind, all super important before bed time.

The scientists analysed over 5,000 sleep studies and the research not only revealed that taking a relaxing shower or bath one or two hours before bed improved the quality of your sleep, it also helped you fall asleep faster.

Which means, if you share a bed with someone who can drift off as soon as their head hits the pillow, you now know by simply having a bath or shower 90 minutes before bed time you’ll be able to do the same.

So, for the perfect night’s sleep tonight, get in the shower or bath before bed, and you’ll be sleeping like a baby as soon as you switch off the lights.
