As global warming increasingly becomes an important environmental issue, one furniture brand are aiming to spark an eco-debate and ignite change with a new sofa design.
Fnji, a Chinese furniture and design firm focused on producing thought provoking and comfortable pieces, have unveiled the latest version of their Iceberg Sofa, a geometric living room addition also aiming to give a voice to the melting of the polar ice caps and wider global warming issues.
The polar ice caps are melting. Since the 1900s, glaciers, which act as a protective sheet that prevents the planet from overheating, have been rapidly melting due to harmful human activities such as pollution, unnecessary waste, overpopulation, deforestation and a host of others.
The current projections are if humans do not curb their current emissions consumption in the proceeding decades, more than a third of the world’s remaining glaciers will melt before the year 2100. Making the world’s oceans hotter, temperatures to rise and make it overwhelmingly harder to inhabit the planet.
Inspired by the shapes and forms of icebergs, the unique Iceberg Sofa hopes to draw attention to the concerning global warming trend and the melting of the polar ice caps, while also providing a cosy living room seat.
The Iceberg sofa is part of the Fnji Crestline collection and is directly related to the Mountain Sofa, which was released in 2019.
The seat is well-defined with comfortable backrests, arm rests and an overall modern aesthetic.
Six interlocking blocks make up the sofa, and it made entirely from upholstered wool fabric. It even comes with a wooden base to give it more of a sculptural look and feel.
The sofa might not be to every home decor taste, but it does offer homes the chance to own something unique, innovative, different, and socially conscious.
The latest version of the Sustainable Fnji Iceberg Sofa is scheduled for release September 2020. To find out where to buy visit Fnji online.
