Virgin Voyages, the international holiday cruise operator, are aiming to earn their sustainability stripes by transforming their fleet into environmentally friendly oceangoing liners that’ll help rather than hinder the worlds oceans.
Virgin Voyages have ongoing initiative to improve its sustainability footprint, the ocean holiday experts have already banned single-use plastic items such as straws, bottled water, plastic bottles, bags, food packaging, hot drink cups on all of their ships.
Now, the cruise specialists are making use of recyclables and reusable materials on their new ship, the Scarlet Lady, with plans to continue with its green cruising push aboard a further three ships set to launch in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Intelligentsia Coffee focuses on sustainable farming and environmental practices when producing coffee, while Emerald Brand provides plastic and tree – free products and packaging from napkins, cups, cutlery, and paper towels.
Virgin are also transforming recycled ocean plastic into upcycled furniture, decor and other onboard items. In their retails spaces ocean safe sun cream and beauty products are being sold.
The new ships will also incorporate sustainable energy solutions, turning the ship’s heat into electricity and reusing wastewater.
