Dog Costumes Can Be a Creative Way to Dress Up Your Pet Pooch

Cosplay is an excuse for us grown ups to dress up and act like big kids, but why should humans have all the fun? Don’t leave out your furry friends as you decide what cosplay outfits the family will be wearing this year.

Dogs can look adorable when dressed up (bless their little paws), but do ensure your dog isn’t uncomfortable or distressed in anyway by your costume choice.

Approach it sensibly and with a few key points in mind. Check the costume is non-toxic, doesn’t restrict movement, and give your pet ample time to get used to their new addition by scent first.

Monitoring body language is a vital way of ensuring your dog is happy. Just remember: if your pet isn’t have any fun, you won’t either in your next cosplay adventure…

Bantha, Star Wars

All Star Wars geeks will know that Banthas are large, furry mammals that travel in herds through Tatooine’s deserts. In the films they are used for transportation, carrying heavy loads and as beasts of war.

Consider: Wearing this costume for only a short period of time. Check your dog is comfortable and happy.

Incredible Hulk

Does your furry friend growl when you go near his food? Does he bark at other dogs from across the street? Well now he can harness his inner rage in the form of this Incredible Hulk outift.

Just don’t expect him to change into an innocent angel when you remove the costume.

Consider: Wearing the cap for long periods of time may get uncomfortable around the head. Be sure to remove the costume at any sign of agitation.

Big and Small Dog Boutique, £29.54

BABY SHARK

If you also have a toddler then there’s a pretty good chance you’re also familiar with Baby Shark. Only now, the popular song can be immortalised in your household with the addition of this fun dog costume.

We guarantee you’ll be singing the tune as soon as they show their cute little face.

Consider:  Wearing this costume for only a short period of time. Check your dog is comfortable and happy. Be sure to remove the costume at any sign of agitation.

Jimi Hendrix

Move over Cat Stevens, Doggie Maclean is in town! This fantastic cosplay of a canine crooner is a lot of fun and sure to strike the right note.

Consider: Don’t force your dog to sit in a position they are not comfortable with.

Amazon, £12

Simba, The Lion King

As dog cosplay costumes go, this lion outfit is very simple but oh-so effective. Instantly turn your pet pooch into The Lion King’s Simba and you’ll be singing ‘Hakuna Matata’ all night long. If you pet pooch doesn’t enjoy wearing a full costume then this lion’s mane could be king of the swingers.

Consider: Removing the head piece for long periods of time. Check your dog is comfortable and happy.

Halloween Costumes, £13.99

Jedi, Star Wars

This costume comes with three components: hooded cloak, shirt and belt. You could even wear a matching Jedi outfit and be Luke Dog-Walker!

Consider: Check your dog is able to move freely and comfortably.

Tarantula

If you’ve ever heard a large spider scuttling on a hardwood floor you’ll have an idea how scary a ten-legged dog-sized tarantula could be. This costume has maximum fright potential.

Consider: Comfort and movement. Dogs may also chew on the legs.

Ebay, £22.94

Tuxedo

This 3-piece combo will ensure your cultured canine is dressed to impress. A jacket, bow tie and hat are included in this costume, adding a touch of class and sophistication to any cosplay soirees.

Consider: Wearing this costume for only a short period of time. The hat likely won’t stay on for long!

Funidelia, £13.68

Iron Man

Every dog is like a superhero to it’s owner so why not add a touch of Hollywood sparkle to proceedings in the shape of Iron Man? AKA Tony Bark!

Let’s just hope that this hood and suit combo don’t have the same powers as the real Iron Man suit or else the back garden fence won’t be very effective in keeping your pup from the bad guys.

Consider: Wearing the cap for long periods of time may get uncomfortable around the head. Be sure to remove the costume at any sign of agitation.

Escapade, £13.49

Pikachu

As far as dog cosplay outfits go, this Pikachu pooch has got to be the cutest canine outfit in the neighbourhood. Handmade from a polar fleece, this outfit not only looks cute, but it’s also practical for a cold night of trick-or-treating.

Just be careful that any Pokemon Go gamers don’t try to ‘catch’ your precious pooch!

Consider: Check your dog is able to move freely and comfortably.

Darth Vader

OK, we did say we might include another Star Wars outfit – we couldn’t resist. If you have two dogs, we couldn’t leave without telling you that you can have one dressed as a Jedi and another as Darth Vader.

If they start to squabble, watch out – that’s one fight you don’t want to try to break up. And don’t be surprised if they try to exert some mind control over to you to fill up the food bowl again…and again…

Consider: Wearing the cap for long periods of time may get uncomfortable around the head. Be sure to remove the costume at any sign of agitation.
